The Feeding Programme

The cookhouse which comprises a kitchen and store room is installed with two wood burning stoves which use a minimum of wood.

The cook, Siyaine provides a breakfast and lunch for all the children at the school. Breakfast is usually a porridge based on either millet flour or maize sweetened with sugar and lunch is made from beans or rice, supplemented with kale from the garden.

The feeding programme is currently costing the school about £2,500 per annum, increasing with inflation and the growth in the number of pupils. An important objective is to develop the school garden (see separate section) to a level whereby it will produce sufficient food for all the children.
